LA Metro has finally selected a project alternative for the massive Sepulveda Transit Corridor project, and it will be a heavy rail line tunneled through the Sepulveda Pass. If the project is eventually procured as a Public-Private Partnership (P3), it will almost certainly be in the running for the largest in U.S. history.

Metro’s selection of an alternative will also naturally end the competition the agency is managing between two different predevelopment partners with very different project solutions. In addition to the team developing the heavy rail, tunneled solution, a separate team had a predevelopment contract with Metro to further a monorail solution, down the median of the 405.

The predevelopment partner for the tunneled heavy rail solution is Sepulveda Transit Corridor Partners (STCP), which is led by Bechtel, Meridiam, and American Triple I (ATI). Bechtel is the lead construction and engineering contractor for the team, and RATP Dev is the team’s O&M provider. The STCP engineering and design team includes Mott Macdonald, T.Y. Lin, Systra, Stadler, and Siemens.
