The next round of competition for Atlanta’s massive top end express lanes network has entered the proposal phase. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) shortlisted bid teams for the I-285 East Express Lanes procurement in late February.
The I-285 East Express Lanes project was expected to draw heavy competition from investors, and GDOT’s shortlist is a long one. Four separate proposal teams will advance to proposals, and they count among them most of the largest players in the global P3 industry.
The I-285 East project is the second of three revenue-risk express lane procurements that will, in their entirety, add two barrier-separated express lanes on the northern half of the I-285 Atlanta Perimeter and on SR-400 extending north of the city. A preferred proposal was selected for the SR-400 Express Lanes P3 last August. The third and final procurement for the I-285 West Express Lanes project is scheduled to begin later this year.
